Paint Old Laminate Desk
Use a soapy sponge with water to clean all the dirt oil or grime off the table top and base.

I use 150 220 grit sandpaper to sand the laminate because it s the best way to get the primer and paint to adhere properly. I did not sand the surface. Improperly applied paint will peel off of laminate and melamine creating a bigger mess than you started out with. If you use a regular nap roller like the ones you use when painting walls it will soak up and waste a lot of the paint and it leaves a textured finish. I used annie sloan s french linen dixie belle with slick stick applied first will also work jolie will work and valspars chalky finish paint will work too.
It is recommended to use a foam brush with this type of paint to give it a smooth finish. The key is to degloss and roughen the plastic surface of laminate and melamine and to use the right paint or coating products. I painted it using latex. Laminate doesn t play well with all primers and paints only those specially formulated to adhere to its picky surface.
